A desk is a desk is a desk

Or is it? Is the result of a highly demanding consumer market that we have infinite options when it comes to desks or just a display of the varying tastes of humans? After all we are a species with characterized impulsive behavior who classify art as anything that pleases their eye.

A desk is no longer the straight block of wood it used to be. Now wood is curved like the waves at sea, colored as bright as a rainbow or as surprising as neon. Where a desk’s main feature used to be to write on, it is now even bigger than a piece of furniture; it is a piece of art.

When you enter an office, the first thing that catches your eye is the reception. And what is the worth of a receptionist without its table? It is the first impression you get of a company and therefore the most impactful. Everything is about image now- a company’s logo, its employees, and its activities. This factor trickles down to things most of us would neglect. A desk is bigger than just the first impression. It is part of the interior. The interior is part of the image, the image of the company. Therefore, so is the desk.

Desks can be bought at strolling through huge furniture shops, staring at your screens online, they appear magically when you hire an interior designer to re-do everything, or they can be custom made. Where the whole world has advanced, why shouldn’t desks? They’re not a niche; they’re part of a healthy, competitive market.

Most offices prefer neat, clean lines displaying simplicity with fresh colors. Organizations spend as much on interiors as on anything else. It is a powerful factor, to be able to influence the mind set of individuals entering offices. When you know your employees will be spending the better part of the day split between staring at their computer screens and the walls surrounding them, motivation becomes a key player. If a worker’s surrounding are inspirational, they will be more driven which will result in increased productivity. Therefore the most logical desks that make sense are glass ones. Why? Because while being invisible, they are at the same time as solid as regular desks. So order a glass desk for everyone please!

A glass desk will not interrupt the view of the interior, the overall image, while performing all the main functions of a desk. There is no longer anything to fear from the sheets of glass, science has evolved enough to produce stable supports for all the activities required of a desk. And art progressed with it, turning the simplicity of glass desks into modern works of art.

The transparency of glass desks induces a sense of open-ness. There is nothing hidden, a subtle way to promote communications between the office in general. To top it off, glass desks are the easiest to clean and maintain. So why not glass desks?
